Biography

Nick is a Cardiologist in the Cardiometabolic service of Fiona Stanley Hospital and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. He graduated with Honours in Medicine [MBBS (Hons)] from the University of Western Australia and undertook physician training in Cardiology [FRACP] in Western Australia. He has a clinical focus in preventive Cardiology and Cardiometabolic medicine, which led him to pursue additional training including a Clinical Fellowship in Endocrinology and Diabetes followed by a Master of Science in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine [MSc] and certification as a Certified Cardiometabolic Health Provider [CCHP]. He also has an interest in cardiac imaging, having completed a Master of Clinical Ultrasound [MClinUS] and the ASCeXAM certification through the National Board of Echocardiography.

 

As an emerging academic in preventive Cardiology, Nick has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles (more than 50 first author) and a book chapter on lipid management in diabetes mellitus. He is a Section Editor for the journal Heart, Lung and Circulation and serves on the Clinical Council for the Australian Atherosclerosis Society. He holds a Master of Clinical Research with Distinction [MClinRes (Dist)] and was previously awarded a Western Australian Health Research Fellowship. His contributions to research have been recognised through competitive awards such as the Strachan Memorial Prize from the Raine Medical Research Foundation. His current research is supported by the Western Australian Future Health Research and Innovation Fund and Athelstan Saw Clinician Researcher Training Scholarship.
