Abstract

Established in 1917, the York and District Co-operative Ltd. currently operates supermarket, hardware, building and garden supplies businesses at two sites within the town. It owns four sites containing these and other buildings. Known as The Co-op York, it is a consumer co-operative located in the picturesque historic town of York, Western Australia (WA). With a combined annual turnover of more than $15 million, The Co-op York, employs about 74 people and provides valuable services to the local population of 3,459 living in the Shire of York, plus the many thousands of tourists who visit the historic town each year.
