Abstract

The primary goal of this research is to provide an account of the significant role of women artists in the advancement of botanical art from the 17th to 20th centuries. The studies of these pioneer women are minuscule compared with that of women artists in the monumental genres of historical and religious art. This research attempt to fill this gap and in the process constitutes a scholarly basis for an understanding of the term feminist art in relation to women botanical artists of the pre-twentieth century and its importance for human relations with the environment.
