Abstract
The operetta “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat) is traditionally performed in opera houses in the vernacular language due to its comedic nature. For these two performances, the original German was chosen for sung portions, a new dialogue was translated, collated, abridged and written by Andrew Foote from a variety of sources, and to ft within timing constraints, and performed in a largely concert-style performance enhanced by acting and some minor props. Printed program notes (1400 words) and a prerecorded and published pre-concert talk (15 minutes) were written and produced by Andrew Foote. The overall content represents a major work of conception, translation/creation (written), rehearsal with performers, and the written and recorded elements of program and pre-concert talk. The performances performed to approx. 1600 audience members and was broadcast nationally by ABC Classic on 13 April 2025.
