Abstract
Mahler 8 is one of the largest-scale choral works in the classical concert repertoire. Written in 1906 and premiered in 1910, this was a WA premiere performance. The scope of the work requires large vocal forces, and five choruses were rehearsed independently, then combined in the week of the performance under the direction of Andrew Foote. Such a large undertaking is a once-in-a-generation event, and an important milestone for professional musicians - many of whom had never played the work - semi-professional and amateur singers, and audience.
