Abstract

The purpose of this document is to report on the breadth of Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC/[Dutch] United East India Company) collection material world-wide (and on the world-wide-web). This considers the objects, documents and data currently held and/or communicated relevant or related to the VOC which operated 1602–1799. This includes reference to individual projects and interfaces that use or create data from material collections. Inclusion in this scoping report is not an endorsement of collectors and collections, or any related activities and methodologies.

The report is structured into four main sections - a scoping summary, an explanation of what is a 'VOC Collection' for the purposes of the document, an overview of collections/institutions arranged by country and then alphabetically, and an overview of relevant projects and resources arranged alphabetically.

In the second version of this report a full reference section was added, and an appendix that lists relevant exhibitions that relate to the VOC or exhibit VOC material.
