Abstract
The visual identification of persons is an indispensable evaluation element for answering forensic questions. For a forensic analysis the terminology and methods of visual identification need to be defined accurately. The methodological basis for the identification of a person can be found in the scientific field of anthropology. In-depth knowledge of anthropological research methods and extensive experience in the implementation of these methods and knowledge about human morphology and variability are decisive factors that make identity evaluation less error prone and scientifically sound.
