Abstract
Child Advocacy Centres (CACs), also referred to as Child & Youth Advocacy Centres (CYACs) or Barnahus, were initially founded with a focus on minimizing the distress caused by the lack of cooperation between systems (i.e., justice, child protection, mental health) following a disclosure of child sexual abuse (Yeaman, 1986). The CAC movement has cast the solution to this in terms of cross-agency and cross-disciplinary collaboration, along with standards for forensic interviews, and the provision of child and family advocates to help navigate often complex support systems and address potential barriers for families in accessing services (Connell, 2009).
