    Abstract

The research aims of my PhD were to reconstruct a biological catalyst called the gamma secretasa enzyme complex. This enzyme is involved in a significant number of cellular processes and is hence of great importance in health and disease. In this study, a unique protein expression system was developed to reconstitute enzyme activity and generate an experimental amount of pure protein material. In turn, enabling future research to provide invaluable insight into the structure and activities of this enzyme. Recognising the therapeutic potential that these enzymes have in Alzheimer's Disease, this insight will facilitate the development of an effective treatment.
