Abstract
Understanding the relations between travel motivations and (re)visit intention is a key aspect to sustain the socio-economic benefits of tourism in a highly competitive market. There are important gaps in the literature as to why tourists travel and how tourists decide to visit and revisit a destination. The main objective of this PhD thesis is to understand the complex process of tourists’ travel motivations in predicting tourists’ decision to visit and revisit a destination by examining the interactions between tourists’ personal values, travel motivations, images (destination image and visitor image congruity), experiences (past and expected) experience, and (re)visit intentions.
