Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand the effects of interactions between reservoir and engineering operations on gas production from shale and coalbed methane reservoirs. This objective has been achieved through the development of three fully coupled multidomain and multiphysics models. In these models, various processes from deformation to flow & transport are defined by a set of partial differential equations and fully coupled through property models for each specific domain. All equations are implemented into, solved by COMSOL Multiphysics, and applied to predict unconventional gas production from unconventional reservoirs.
