Abstract

In this thesis, three-dimensional numerical simulations and physical experimental tests have been carried out to investigate the flow structures around a circular cylinder near a plane boundary. The hydrodynamic forces, flow structures and boundary layer transitions have been analysed in the high Reynolds number under a few scenarios, i.e. a circular cylinder near a plane boundary in a water flume, in a wind tunnel testing facility and an isolated cylinder through three-dimensional large eddy simulation. To check the end effect, three-dimensional large eddy simulation has been carried out to investigate flow around a near wall circular cylinder.
