Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has come with an accelerated pace of change and several emerging technologies reshaping the economy and society. This accelerated pace demands organisations to constantly evaluate emerging technologies and make pre-adoption decisions to justify developing a business case for determining whether to adopt a technology. This research follows Multi Case Study and Action Design Research methodologies to extend the theory of Diffusion of Innovation, develop a new theory for organisational technology pre-adoption decisions (TOTPAD), build an artefact to help evaluate an emerging technology before developing a business case, and examine factors influencing pre-adoption decisions.
