Tilt suppression for ultra-low residual motion vibration isolation in gravitational wave detection

    Abstract

    It is shown that a combination of ultra-low frequency vibration isolators combined with high sensitivity tilt sensing and feedback allows rms vibration levels in laser interferometer gravitational wave detector rest masses to be reduced from similar to 100 mum to similar to1 nm greatly simplifying operation and reducing control system noise injection.
