Abstract
This thesis contains three critical essays on international insider trading. The first essay discovers that insiders trade before an earnings announcement on the knowledge of upcoming earnings news in the global equity market. The findings of this essay support the information leakage view of insider trading. The second essay provides evidence that state ownership endows insiders with private information advantages, which they convey to the market through stock trading. The third essay finds that insider trading profits in banks relative to other firms in the U.S are larger during periods of macroeconomic uncertainty, suggesting information advantages by bankers.
