Abstract

This thesis contains three essays and aims to investigate the research performance and innovation behavior of Chinese universities and institutes. We approach national innovation through the lens of the innovation ecosystem and global scientific network. International collaboration has enhanced the performance of Chinese research institutions and helped integrate China into the global scientific network. However, international collaboration in academia is influenced by US-China diplomacy profoundly. In addition, as the largest economy in transition, China is still in the initial stage of university technology transfer. The interaction with industry promotes the performance of university technology transfer.
