Abstract

The kwongan is widely recognized for its diversity, but the structure and patterns of this diversity has not been adequately identified. Using meta-analysis of existing studies, the vegetation was classified into a system describing the whole extent which was used as a base for an assessment of machine-learning approaches examining the utility of both remotely sensed and potential natural vegetation methods in identifying the patterns of the kwongan in the form of a vegetation map. This resulted in the creation of the finest scale map of the kwongan vegetation to date, highlighting the utility of such approaches in other areas.
