Abstract

Singapore is known for its harsh stance on drug trafficking offences, leaning towards the ‘crime control’ model with high conviction rates and stiff penalties. However, recent years have seen increased scrutiny of drug trafficking convictions by the Singaporean courts. These developments have shown an increased judicial scrutiny in drug trafficking offences and, in some ways, can be argued to be a shift away from the traditional ‘crime control’ model towards due process and individualised justice.
