Abstract
Baldassare Galuppi (1706?1785) was an eighteenth-century Venetian composer who was active in nearly every contemporary genre. However, his place in history has largely been overlooked, and his numerous oratorios composed for the major Venetian charitable and religious institutions have remained almost unexplored. The lack of clear or reliable editions suggests a need to develop modern editions of these oratorios for performances or re-assessment. This research examines one selected sacred oratorio Il Sacrifizio di Jefte of Galuppi in the context of oratorio settings in the eighteenth century and produces a performing edition. Reflections on the performance of this work are also provided.
