Abstract

Occupational exposure injuries (OEIs) from exposure to patient's blood or body fluids are one of the most commonly reported injuries experienced by healthcare workers. These expose the worker to risks of infection from bloodborne viruses from contaminated medical sharps, and splashes of blood or body fluids. The aim of this thesis is to identify and describe the strategies used for the prevention and management of OEIs within a Western Australian hospital by means of a Cochrane Systematic Review, and a retrospective dynamic cohort study, utilising an interrupted time series analysis of ten years of injury data.
