Abstract

Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been proposed as a preventative-based intervention for preadolescent children. However, recent reviews highlight several significant gaps present in the current body of literature. As a result, the application of MBIs may be exceeding what can be construed from current literature. Accordingly, this thesis aimed to explore the benefits of MBIs for preadolescent children using an integrated psychological and neuroscientific approach. Findings from this thesis guide the use of mindfulness by demonstrating multidisciplinary support for the use of MBIs, an intervention that shows promise in alleviating psychological problems and building core self regulation skills in preadolescent children.
