Abstract

The Obstetrics department is a rapidly changing environment where obstetric emergencies occur, often without warning. These events can have positive outcomes, although they can also bring devastation, loss, and grief to not only the parents but the members of the multidisciplinary team. This qualitative study aimed to explore the multidisciplinary teams experience of the support strategies offered and provided to them after their exposure to a traumatic obstetric event. The results identified four main themes, Tears on the Inside, Motivation for Action, Healing for the Future and Cracked Organisation with findings highlighting the importance of organisational support.
