Abstract

The research presented in this thesis addresses the gap in evidence for exercise therapy and its incorporation within routine mental healthcare. The thesis outlines steps to enhance the implementation of exercise therapy in hospital mental health settings. The thesis consists of two major studies with results reported as distinct chapters. Firstly, a Delphi study established expert informed guidelines for implementing exercise therapy within hospital-based mental healthcare. Secondly, an effectiveness-implementation trial evaluated the implementation and effectiveness of distinct modes of exercise therapy delivery: in-person and remotely supported, within a transdiagnostic mental health hospital service.
