Abstract

Ambition is important for a competitive workforce. Yet, over ambition of employees could lead to project failures, especially when they fail to recognize organizational capabilities. Through the lens of ambition theory and awareness-motivation-capability (AMC) perspective, this study observes how the consultants’ ambitions lead to software development project failures. Results are drawn using the case study method, employing five software development projects. Results derive six types of ambitions that each would have a different consequence on project success. Furthermore, this research highlights the importance of balancing awareness, ambitions and capabilities.
