Abstract

This thesis examines the Taca Taca Bajo Cu-Mo-(Au) and Bajo de la Alumbrera Cu-Au porphyry deposits in the Andean retro-arc. The thesis discusses the magma source as well as the petrogenetic evolution of these porphyry systems in an evolving geodynamic framework and assesses the applicability of fertility indicators within this retro-arc tectonic setting. In addition, the duration of magmatism and Cu-Mo mineralization as well as the evolution of the hydrothermal alteration system at Taca Taca Bajo are determined and compared to other porphyry deposits in the Andes and worldwide.
