Traces the life of Irvine Owen Gaze set in his family background.It mainly dwells on Gaze's time as part of the Ross Sea Shore Party from 1914-1917 whose mission was to lay supply depots to sustain Ernest Shackleton and his party in their proposed expedition to cross the Antarctic continent from the Weddell Sea.
