Abstract

This study provided a comprehensive review of severe and fatal cycling accidents which occurred in Western Australia (WA) between 1995 and 2010, using whole-population linked data methods. The linkage of hospital admission, death and police crash data enabled more accurate quantification of levels of severe and fatal cycling injury in WA than previously published methods. Further, this study examined the interplay between cyclist, injury and accident characteristics with injury severity, and improved the understanding of factors that contribute to cycling injuries which lead to hospitalisation and death in WA.
