Abstract
This thesis presents an original conceptualisation of an 'embodied labour process' of paid aged care support work using Merleau-Ponty's (2014 [1945]) phenomenological view of the body and Hamington's (2004) concept of 'embodied care'. This conceptualisation is used to explore workers' experiences of performing the labour process of paid aged care support work in the increasingly marketised context of aged care. The study reveals the depth and complexity of the exploitation of the physical materiality of the worker body in the labour process and argues that these worker bodies bear the brunt of the marketisation of aged care.
