Abstract

Sixty-one patients with heart failure were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial that compared eccentric cycling to concentric cycling in a 16-week exercise programme. Cognitive-depressive frailty, as assessed by the Total Assessment Score, significantly improved at the end of the exercise programme compared to baseline, but there was no significant difference between the two types of exercise. Physical frailty, measured with the Modified Frailty Phenotype, had a non-significant improvement, although the baseline prevalence in the study was lower than expected. Further studies with larger and more frail cohorts are required.
