Abstract

Otitis media (OM) is a common disease in childhood. This thesis investigates the burden of early-like otitis media on children and their caregivers and explores novel ways to provide timely diagnosis and intervention. Utilising retrospective and prospective data, this thesis showed increased developmental problems in children in the short- and long-term and reduced psychological well-being of their caregivers in the early years of a child’s life. This thesis also emphasised the role of telehealth in providing economically viable, improved access to care, ultimately reducing the burden of OM on children, their families, and the public healthcare system.
