Abstract

Basal cell carcinoma was analyzed using terahertz pulse imaging (TPI) technique. The terahertz pulses were generated by optical excitation of a wide aperture antenna using 800 nm femtosecond pulses. The diseased tissue was analyzed in the same scan as a piece of healthy tissue from the same patient, providing a direct comparison. It was found that the variation in contrast across the diseased tissue was greater than that of healthy tissue.
