N2 - This chapter provides an overview of the ways in which technology-facilitated abuse has been defined and explored in the literature and framed in relation to intimate partner violence. It enables the reader to understand the range of behaviours that constitute technology-facilitated abuse, including the different technologies utilised and varied strategies employed by perpetrators. Although our knowledge of the extent of technology-facilitated abuse perpetration is incomplete and some countries lag behind in collecting relevant data, the chapter provides a snapshot of the prevalence of technology-facilitated abuse. The available evidence clearly shows that digital technologies have opened up spaces for perpetrators to extend and expand their control over their partner beyond the physical world. We end by highlighting the range of impacts that studies on technology-facilitated abuse have drawn attention to, including in relation to mental health, social impacts, economic consequences and in terms of the opportunities for perpetrators to create a sense of omnipresence.
