Abstract

In this paper, a novel two-degree of freedom internal model dual-loop control configuration is proposed using Teaching-Learning based fractional order proportional integral-derivative (TL-FOPID) for load frequency control of power systems. The inner loop controller is designed using the stability equation method of model approximation, and the outer loop includes the TL-FOPID controller. The efficacy of the proposed approach is shown using a single area non-reheated thermal power system in the presence of both nominal and perturbed values of systems parameters. The simulation results reveal that the proposed approach significantly reduces the oscillations due to sudden load disturbance in comparison to the well-known existing methods.
