Abstract
This essay is about the SymbioticA art project at the University of Western Australia. SymbioticA were the first in the world to establish a residency project for artists in laboratories, in which artists have the opportunity of collaborating with working scientific researchers. This essay looks at some of the issues that have emerged from placing artists into laboratories, and documents its work with a view to the way artist expectations contradict scientific reality.
