N2 - This submission responds to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources’ Discussion Paper, Safe and Responsible AI in Australia, published in June 2023. The Discussion Paper seeks feedback on possible governance and regulatory responses to ensure “AI is used safely and responsibly”. Drawing on our expertise as interdisciplinary researchers with track records in the development, deployment, and regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and automated decision making systems, we have focused on how the Australian Government can proactively manage AI to best ensure that it serves the needs of all Australians.
