Abstract

This full-length CD (70 mins), released by reedmusi©.com in late 2003, brings together previously unrecorded works for piano, saxophone, voice and violin in various combinations by composer Stuart Greenbaum. The Disc presents not only the premiere recording or “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano”, but also six other works by Stuart Greenbaum: Sonata for Violin and Piano; Three Songs of Sleep; For Ever; Life Cycles; Octennial Song; and Four Thoughts. The CD includes performances by Adam Pinto, Barry Cockcroft, Larissa Cairns, Hildy Essex, Patrick Lawrence, Glenn Riddle, and Marianne Rothschild. The “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano” was a work unprecedented in the Australian canon for this combination of instruments. in terms of its scope, complexity and structure. It represents a clear and significant statement of the impact that Stuart Greenbaum, Barry Cockcroft and Adam Pinto had on the repertoire available for this combination of instruments.
