Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano

This performance titled: “Retrospective: A Decade of Music for Saxophone and Piano” was presented at Melba Hall at the University of Melbourne on April 30, 2003. The concert included the premiere performance of “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano”. This major new work was composed by Stuart Greenbaum and written specifically for Barry Cockcroft and Adam Pinto (known as “rompduo”) in 2002. The commissioning of the “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano” and this premiere performance of the work were both supported with funding from the Albert H. Maggs award trust. The concert also featured: Sleepless in Overnight City (1994); Noyz in the ‘Hood (1997); Big Lighthouse (1998); Life Cycles (1998); The Lake and the Hinterland (1999); and Equator Loops (2000). The "Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano" can be viewed as the culmination of nearly a decade of collaboration between composer Stuart Greenbaum and performers Barry Cockcroft and Adam Pinto.
