Abstract
My aim in this short presentation is to address some basic aspects of cultural diversity among indigenous populations throughout Australia .. In the short time available, I cannot deal with the subject in any detail. To introduce relevant matters for discussion, I will present some information concerning, firstly, the issue of diversity deriving from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural traditions. Secondly, I will raise the matter of differing histories of relations with non-Aboriginal Australians in various regions of the continent. Thirdly, I will comment on some implicC;ltiofis of both diverse cultural traditions, and different histories of colonisation, for the nature of relations with land among Aboriginal and Islander communities in the 1990s.
