Abstract
A theory for phase transitions capable of describing competing interactions in dipolar coupled spin systems and clustered metal alloys is discussed. A variational solution is used to minimise the free energy in order to determine phase boundaries. Results show spin glass transitions and re-entrant behaviour in two and three dimensions.
