N2 - Concrete-filled single skin (CFT) and double skin tubular (CFDST) members have some advantages in resisting forces compared to conventional concrete or steel tubular members. Among the most important are the high strength and bending stiffness, fire performance and favourable, construction ability and durability. The CFT is made of single skin outer jacket surrounds the concrete infill. The CFDST column consists of two concentric steel tubes with a concrete fill in-between them. Unfortunately, there are no significant applications of this new structural element worldwide, partly due to the lack of the understanding of their behaviour and insufficient design provisions in different design manuals. Accordingly, this book focuses on the compressive and bending strength of CFT and CFDST members and is based on published studies in the last two decades. CFT and CFDST members are currently recommended structural members in modern buildings. In this book, a review of the research carried out on the CFT and CFDST members is given with emphasis on experimental and finite element (FE) research works under axial compression, bending and combined action. Experimental and FE data have been collected and compiled in a comprehensive tables using different parameters found in the literature. This book also highlights, based on up-to-date results, the effects of confinement of concrete, initial imperfection and residual stresses, concrete compaction, hollow ratio, thickness ratio, long-term sustained loading, axial partial compressive loading, preloading on steel tubes, steel fibre reinforced concrete and external confinement on the behaviour of CFT and CFDST members. Specific stress is put on various design methods of CFT and CFDST members with different cross-sections. At the end, recommendations for future research are made, in particular research is still needed for the CFDST members with different cross-sections with different geometrical and material parameters
