Abstract

Some common challenges for children who are hard-of-hearing include language and communication, cognitive development and social functioning. These areas rely heavily on language, and they are interdependent. Parents and professionals working with and supporting children who are hard-of-hearing face challenges related to these areas. This thesis sought to understand the challenges which three groups of stakeholders face and how the society can further help and assist them in their struggles. The parents, professionals and individuals who are hard-of-hearing share their insights on how things can be improved for them in areas of language and communication, cognitive development and social functioning.
