Reconstruction of incident sound on an elastic beam

Abstract

Reconstruction of incident sound on the surface of an elastic structure using the sound-induced vibration response has applications in detecting an incident sound field and in controlling its reflection and transmission. In this paper, we demonstrate this reconstruction, beginning with identification of the modal forces based on the sound-induced structural response and a model of an elastic beam structure. Then the incident sound is reconstructed from the identified modal forces and a model of incident sound. Simulation and experimental results are used to illustrate the effect of uncertainties of modal parameters on the accuracy of the identified modal forces and incident sound field.
