Abstract

Structure-property relationships governing molecular conductance in families of symmetrically and asymmetrically contacted diarylacetylenes, oligo(phenyleneethynylene)s, and polyynes have been explored, based on measurements made using the scanning-tunneling microscope break junction(STM-BJ) method. Single-molecule conductance results have been analysed within the framework of Lambert's Quantum Circuit Rule (QCR), confirming the postulate that a molecular junction can be treated as a series of scattering regions corresponding to discrete molecular 'components' assembled in series.
