N2 - This is the first of two parts of a Special Issue focusses on the recent assessment of China’s quantitatively assessed potential mineral resources as part of the “Potential Evaluation for Major Mineral Resources In China” (PMR) program as part of the “China National Mineral Resources Assessment Initiative” (CNMRAI) that was conducted between 2006 and 2013 (Zhang et al., 2017, this volume). The aim of the CNMRAI is to target the mineral potential, outline mineral system patterns, and develop information packages for mineral resources. The achievements of the project were to collect more than 15TB data, delineate more than 200 targets, and estimate the amount of important or strategic mineral resources within 25 mineralized zones or belts at regional scales in China. Fig. 1 summarises the workflow and matrix involved in this project in this volume, which is outlined by Xiao et al. (2017). This part of the Special Issue covers some of the prediction models and techniques developed for the project.
