Abstract

N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have made a significant impact in the chemical sciences, in
particular, their ability to act as strong donor ligands have been extensively explored in
organometallic chemistry and catalysis. However, development of new NHC ligands in asymmetric
metal catalysis is still relatively slow. New electron rich diphenyl or simply diphenyl backbone
containing and alkylated naphthyl side arm comprising chiral NHC ligands have been prepared in the
work. When the catalytic activity of the NHC ligands were performed in NHC-Ir catalysed asymmetric
intramolecular hydroamination reactions and NHC-Ru catalysed asymmetric olefin metathesis
reactions they showed very good reactivities and enantioselectivities.
