Abstract

A preliminary mathematical model to describe bacterial migration, growth, deposition and metabolite production during Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) is proposed. The model considers the injection of a solution containing bacteria and nutrient into a single uniform pore that stretches radially away from the injection well. This model is very flexible in that parameters for different bacteria or metabolites and initial conditions may easily be changed and the corresponding effect of this change will be revealed in the output which is given as profiles throughout the pore. The results obtained in this paper demonstrate the effect of some of these parameters on the plugging of the pore.
