Abstract

This thesis describes the performance and some of the accomplishments of the SPIIR online gravitational wave detection pipeline. Here, I discuss the studies that were conducted to test the performance of SPIIR and also introduce a new implementation within our pipeline called the early warning alert system, which allows us to detect gravitational wave sources before the merger, which was not possible before. Early warning alerts are extremely useful in multi-messenger astronomy, as they could provide warnings for conventional telescopes with minimal delays, that can be used to point to a sky position and look for potential coincident counterpart emissions.
