Abstract

This thesis focuses on developing forecasting and planning models in the context of high penetration of renewable energy generation. Due to the rapid increase in renewable energy and load demand, today’s power grid operates in a highly uncertain environment. This thesis aims to develop short-term and long-term forecasting models to address the uncertainty of load demand and solar power. Furthermore, the electricity sectors are currently under a “mid-transition”, a once-in-a-generation structural shift from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy sources. Therefore, developing long-term expansion planning models for power systems in a strong uncertain environment is also a key research focus.
