Abstract

In collaboration with Australian and Chinese Universities, CSIRO has been using a CO2 capture pilot plant at Vales Point Power Station, New South Wales to demonstrate an advanced, aqueous ammonia based post-combustion carbon capture technology for its application in mitigating greenhouse gas emission (GHG) in Australian power sectors. The advanced technology incorporates a number of process improvements which can make the technology economically more viable. The pilot plant has been modified to enable trialing of the new features including combined SO2 removal and NH3 recovery, recycled absorption and stripper rich-split. Consequent to these process improvements, pilot plant trials have produced much promising outcomes to investigate further including production of value-added products.
