Abstract

Australia's paediatric dental system faces challenges, with rising hospitalisations for preventableconditions. This research explores hospital presentations and oral health programs, revealingincreased rates of pulp and periapical diseases, particularly among 5-9-year-olds. Dental infectionsand trauma contribute to unplanned hospital visits, exposing oral health inequalities tied tosocioeconomic status and residential areas. While the Child Dental Benefits Schedule improvesaccess, its impact on hospitalisations is uncertain. Reduced oro-facial trauma hospitalisations duringthe 'Covid year' emphasise lifestyle influences
